A retail business that went from a little kiosk in the mall that was only open on holidays, to a full blown business that is placing boutiques all over the country is how one could describe the Bohme sister’s retail business.
The Bohme sisters created the Bohme Boutique in Salt Lake City Utah and after many trials and many different ups and downs they have expanded to Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, and South Dakota. The Bohme sisters are expanding even farther and three more Bohme Boutiques will be opening this winter in Southern Hills Mall – Sioux City, IA, Independence mall – Independence, MO, and Westfield Gateway Mall – Lincoln, NE.
So, how did these two sisters from Brazil create such a thriving and successful business? How did they connect with their customers in order to find out what they liked and disliked?
The following is a list of ways the Bohme sisters used web technology as well as common trial and error in order to really connect with their customers:
- Trial & Error
When the Bohme sisters first started their business, instead of trying to automatically begin with technology, they began with some simple trial & error tests in order to find out what worked and what didn’t work, and to find out what their customers liked and didn’t like. For example, the Bohme sisters would place an outfit in the window of their store or towards the front of the store for two to three days in order to see if they sold. When they placed more expensive things up front then sales went down. The sisters would also look at the competitors to see what they were selling and what the customers were buying.
- Facebook & Twitter
Another way the Bohme sisters found out what their customers wanted was by hooking up to web technology like social media platforms. Bohme is now on Facebook and Twitter and the Bohme Boutique is able to figure out what customers like and don’t like based on the likes, shares, and comments they receive on their social networks.
Another big web technology, that has recently hit the fans in popularity and is now being used by Bohme boutique, is Pinterest. Bohme is able to see what their customers like based on the number of re-pins each of their products receives.
- Google Analytics
Google analytics is another way that the Bohme Boutique keeps track of traffic to the site. They keep track of where people are coming from and what they are doing on the site in order to see what is popular and what is working and what is not.
- Good Old Fashioned Networking & Talking
When the Bohme sisters first started out, they used good old fashioned socializing in order to find out what their customers did and didn’t like. They had customers asking why they didn’t sell certain brands and styles of clothing so they listened to them and bought what the customers wanted.
The Bohme sisters’ retail business has grown exponentially and it is all because they paid attention to the customers’ needs and wants.
